PRGE The Questionaire/Answered

February 27, 2007

1. How long have you been knitting/crocheting/spinning?
I have crocheted since the 80’s and taught myself to knit about a year ago and now I pretty much knit exclusively.

2. Do you consider yourself a beginner, novice or experienced yarn artist?
I am going with experienced. I can follow a chart well and have tried everything but Intarsia. Love to lace knit (but it takes me sooooo long) and I have recently tried Fair Isle.

3. What fibers (materials) have you knit/crochet with?
Pretty much everything but linen and cashmere (hello, expensive). Cotton is my least favorite to use.

4. What are your favorite yarns?
I love Alpaca! If it has alpaca in it I am super happy. Soft wool is a bonus too. I don’t have a particular brand of yarn that I gravitate too, though.

5. What fibers are you dying to try?
Well, if we are being honest, Bison. I think it would be cool to try but for a small skein it is like $22. There was a cute pair of ankle socks in a recent issue of Interweave Knits that used Bison yarn. Ahhh…. On the more affordable side, I haven’t used Bamboo alot but would like to try using it more.

6. Do you prefer solid, self striping, or handpainted yarns?
I tend to gravitate toward handpainted. I like varigated and striped yarns. Solids are good too but even then I usually go for the heathered variety.

7. What fibers do you dislike?
As stated somewhere above: COTTON (Ack!) Not a big fan of acrylic yarn either. I’m a natural fiber purest, I guess.

8. What are your favorite colors?
Here we go, I was afraid of this question because I have a hard time narrowing it down. Purple, red, dark green, chocolate browns and black. I really love all color but that is cliche. If it helps, I like deep jewel tones a lot and I have definate dislikes. . . read on

9. What are your least favorite colors?
Orange and yellow. Now if they are deep oranges mixed with say purples and reds I can handle it but on their own–no,no. I also hate pastels.

10. How did you learn to knit/crochet/spin?
I taught my self both crocheting and knitting. I’m a leo and find I take direction well only if I agree with it, so it sometimes is better for me to dive in and work it out myself.

11. What projects are you currently working on?
A sweater, a shawl, a scarf, a pair of socks and a hat.

12. How old is your oldest UFO? What is it? Will it ever be finished?
The Swallow Tail shawl. I started it in the fall. Will it ever be finished, God! I hope so. I am using a sport weight yarn to make it larger so that is taking a bit of time, mostly I’m just procrastinating.

13. What is the most heartbreaking project that you ever frogged?
Truthfully, when I get to the point of frogging I’m usually so pissed that I take a sick pleasure in ripping it apart.

14. Do you prefer straight or circular needles?
Circs. I like straight needles for scarves but usually I end up using circulars for everything else (except socks, I don’t know how to do them on circs, yet).

15. Do you own a swift and/or a winder?
I own a winder and would LOVE a swift. Right now, I put the yarn over the back of a chair and unwind it that way (which is slow and tedious and leaves my shoulders aching).

16. Where do you keep your needles?
In a box with drawers that I keep by my chair in the livingroom.

17. Do you enjoy helpful hints about your knitting or does it just piss you off?
Oh, I love hints. Doesn’t mean I will follow them but I love them. Sometimes you hear the most obvious stuff and feel like, “duh, why wasn’t I doing that before”.

18. What techniques are you still a virgin in (lace, cables, ect.) and are you interested in trying them?
Intarsia. Not really interested. I think it is gorgeous but having all of those little balls of dangling yarn would seriously challenge my patience. Fair Isle is about as much “confusion” as I can take.

19. What knitting magazines do you subscribe to?
Interweave Knits, Vogue Knitting. That’s it. I usually purchase other mags according to the content.

20. Are there any books, needles, yarn, patterns that you are dying to get your hands on?
Knitting Nature and Mason Dixon Knitting are two books that I would like to own.

21. Do you enjoy knitting socks? How big are your feet?
Love knitting socks. I wear a size 8. Most patterns that are written for the average size foot, fit me.

22. Do you have a wish list?
I have one on Amazon.com. Here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/3SH7TJ98CTNHA/

23. What are your non-knitting, crochet, spinning hobbies?
I love to make collage pages/postcards, I love to read, I enjoy gardening and being outdoors.

24. How do you feel about sports?
I am not really athletic at all. I do however love NFL football (big Rams fan).

25. What is your favorite season? Least favorite season? Why?
Summer. Winter. I hate cold weather and I love the beach and the sun.

26. What is your favorite holiday?
Christmas with Halloween as a runner up.

27. Do you like handmade gifts?

28. Do you wear jewelry that isn’t real?
I do. I like earrings, bracelets and necklaces. Not big on rings because I am a Massage Therapist and I can’t wear them on a daily basis (although I use to; I have rings for every finger!).

29. What are your favorite foods? Scents that you love?
Chocolate!! Italian and Mexican. I drink coffee in the morning and water and tea throughout the day. I love teas! As far as scents go I really like essential oils and exotic/musk scents (Sandlewood, Amber, stuff like that). Nothing to flowery.

30. What is your family situation? Do you live alone?
I have a husband and 3 sons (19, 18, and 11). Plus my dad lives with us.

31. Do you have any pets?
I have 3 dons (oops, DOGS). Timber, a White German Shepard (7 yrs), Buster, a Beagle (3 yrs), and Winston, a Boxer (7 months).

32. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3’s?
Love Rock/Alternitive (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Incubus, Ani DeFranco, The Doors, Evenesence, Flogging Molly–some examples). Yes, my Apple and PC can play MP3’s and I have an iPod.

33. What are your favorite movies? TV shows? Actors?
Johnny Depp! Nick Cage. I love Lost, Gilmore Girls, Survivor, Men in Trees. My taste in movies is great. I really DON’T like horror, though.

34. What do you collect?
Feathers, sea shells, cool rocks, Lions (I’m a Leo), Fairies/dragonflies and Frogs.

35. What do you do in real life — besides knit and blog?
I’m a Massage Therapist and a kick-ass mom. I love hanging with my kids. They are awesome!

36. When is your birthday? Is it a national holiday or just another day?
July 23. Well, I like to think it SHOULD be a national holiday, but whatever.

37. Do you have any allergies, medical conditions or disorders that your pal should be aware of (ie. diabetes, food/pet allergies, ect.)?

38. Are there any scents, phobias, or sensory thing (ie, the way certain objects feel) that your pal should be aware of?

39. What is the most difficult thing that you have ever knit/crochet?
hmmm, that is a tough one. I can’t really think of anything at the moment. I do need to work on and practice seams.

40. What is your personal style? Is there a time period/fashion movement that you take your cues from?
I shop at Hot Topic and Charlotte Russe quite a bit (and of course WalMart and thrift stores). I like comfy, hip clothes. Not big into dresses or lacy, frilly things. Hate pink. No pink. Really.

41. Anything else that you would like to say?
Well, if you have additional questions feel free to email me and ask. I will do my best to help out with my answers. Don’t be afraid to get to know me. I’m really pretty cool and tons of fun. Here are just a few other things that are important to me: Yoga, Breath work, Spiritual growth, the environment, Being responsible for yourself and your actions. Peace~ DAWN
